Please give us a description of what happened

The highlighting feature behaves differently between the block/Gutenberg and the classic editor when editing texts. With the highlighting feature turned on, in block editor, the highlighting mark-up is still visible, whereas in classic editor, the highlighting mark-up is not visible anymore.

It is unclear what's the desired behaviour here from a user perspective, so please discuss the status of this report (bug or feature request).

To Reproduce

Step-by-step reproduction instructions

  1. Create a post.
  2. Add some text, including a passive sentence.
  3. Activate the highlighting functionality for passive sentences, and confirm this passive sentence is being highlighted.
  4. Continue editing the post.

Expected results

  1. (in block/Gutenberg editor) The passive sentence is still highlighted while editing.

Actual results

  1. (in classic editor) The passive sentence is not highlighted anymore while editing (even though the icon indicates the highlighting is activated).
