If you have a ThreePartDate with required: True in the YAML, it will sometimes be marked as "field required", but if you leave all 3 fields empty, DA will let you proceed.

I believe this is a more general error in CustomDataTypes that needs to be fixed upstream; we need to have the value from the YAML in the validate function, which isn't accessible there yet.
