This thread is for issues related to running Serenity under VMware (similar to #2927 for tracking issues with VirtualBox).

Now that Serenity can run on VMware, there's several issues that have cropped up while using it:

  • No networking - Network adapter is not detected.
  • No sound - Sound blaster SB16 is not detected.
  • Powering off the system (shutdown -n) causes the system to freeze. Comparatively, restarting the system (reboot) works fine.
  • Booting into text mode presents a black screen with no shell prompt. Commands can still be entered and executed (ie, reboot<enter> will reboot the system).
  • Changes to screen resolution do not take effect.

Serenity freezes during boot for me in VMware Fusion with no output on serial port.
