Having a shared Document file is not professional and it should be in website instead as a page.

Pros:

More professional face
Easier access even for new users
Reduces questions about compatibility mostly from new users
Easy to maintain on GitHub
Search engines friendly
and more...

Cons:

Maybe requires more attention from repo maintainer
Increasing website size a little bit
