NoahMP has a minimum soil moisture threshold value set here:

wrf_hydro_nwm_public/trunk/NDHMS/Land_models/NoahMP/phys/module_sf_noahmplsm.F

Line 7110 in 5cfc4d2

WATMIN = 0.01 ! mm

Then the check is only enforced when values are negative:

wrf_hydro_nwm_public/trunk/NDHMS/Land_models/NoahMP/phys/module_sf_noahmplsm.F

Line 7112 in 5cfc4d2

IF (MLIQ(IZ) .LT. 0.) THEN

So there appears to be a gap when values are less than the minimum threshold but not negative. Should these be addressed?
