In testing of conus NWM on Cheyenne with Intel 19.0.1, along with impi/2019.2.187, a potential issue arose.

Expected Behavior

An incorrect route link file was specified in the hydro.namelist, which under normal conditions, leads to a quick model crash.

Current Behavior

The model just hung as an open process until the wall clock time was hit and the job was killed by a clock limit.

Possible Solution

I migrated back to Intel 17.0.1 with impi/2017.1.132 and the issue was no longer present. The model crashed quickly as expected.

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

  1. load Intel/19.0.1 and impi/2017.1.132
  2. Run conus NWM on 18 nodes via mpirun with an incorrect route link specified in the hydro.namelist.

Your Environment

  • Version of the code used:
    Tag v5.1.0
  • Operating System and version:
    Cheyenne
  • Compiler and version:
    See notes above.
