Disk I/O can become a bottleneck, for example in the case of MDI.

/tmp is usually a Ramdisk by default on most linux distros. Perhaps attempting to put the file there to begin with could do the trick.

Searching around there doesn't seem to be a good solution. @taylor-a-barnes

I think /tmp is a good way to knock this out quickly. Beyond that, users should be able select their own ramdisk/fast scratch prefix in a configuration option or file.
