<l>At what point is the reader born?- this</l>
<l>faculty, the power to make <add place="above">visible</add> out of print <del>ho</del> men, countries,</l>
<l><del>houses, &</del> visble <del>cou</del> places & houses & <del>the</del> words &</l>
<l>warm bodies, & their thoughts, is rare; it is not</l>
<l>exercised on the [strips] of newspaper. It is non existent</l>
<l>in great masses of <del>literate</del> the literate. It is</l>
<l>different from the scholars gift or the critics.</l>
<l><del>So then the plays are</del> It is <del>[illeg.]</del> complex <del>not</del></l>
<l>in itself; for it <del>has</del> to see, <add place="above">it has</add> to hear, <del>but</del> <add place="above">also</add> it is for ever</l>

<l>One generation <del>brings out this</del> perceives this in</l>
<l>the printed page; another <del>sees</del> that the</l>
<l><del>the</del> in the early plays, obviously, the reader</l>

<l>are <del>in the</del> among the audence. <del>The</del> And</l>
<l>that is one of the attractions of the early plays––</l>
<l>to be <del>unaware of the</del> <del>that they bring out the</del></l>
<l><del>spectator: make an appeal to the body:</del></l>
<l><del>are so visible, palpable, audible. So crude:</del></l>
<l><del>They have the frailty of</del> They need to be read in</l>
<l>company. They are the product of the company.</l>
