When I read the documentation of gmtbinstats, I feel it's unclear to me what exactly hexagonal tiling means.
I find the following illustration from #3950 (comment) is very useful explaining hexagonal and rectangular tilings.
I think we should add an illustration showing (a) a rectangular grid layout; (b) a hexagonal tiling to the gmtbinstats documentation.
