On December 15, 2023, we are concluding the following technical previews:
- Copilot for PRs
- Copilot for Docs
- Copilot Labs
- Blocks
Once the technical previews conclude, the features will no longer be available through GitHub Next. While GitHub Next is concluding these technical previews to make room for new projects, some of the GitHub Copilot features are moving into production. You can find the latest information on availability of these features here.
If you’ve been loving GitHub Copilot Labs, we recommend you join the public beta for GitHub Copilot Chat to continue enjoying this feature. We’re also releasing the test-generation feature from Copilot Labs as an open source project and encourage you to keep experimenting with it. If you’ve enjoyed tinkering with Copilot in the CLI, you can join the public beta here. If you have not had a chance to experiment with either, you can still join the betas–all you need is an active GitHub Copilot subscription.
With regards to GitHub Blocks, blocks.githubnext.com will no longer work once the technical preview concludes and we will not make Blocks into a full GitHub product. Blocks was an exciting experiment and thanks to your feedback, we learned a lot about how we might add extensibility to GitHub.com. We expect GitHub will continue to explore this capability in the future, but for now we’re focusing our efforts on other areas.
To that end, we’ve got some exciting new projects in the works and we can’t wait to share them with you. If you tuned into the Day 1 keynote at GitHub Universe last week, you’ve already gotten an early look at one of our new experiments – Copilot Workspace. But that’s not all. New projects include SpecLang, Realtime GitHub, Copilot Next-Edit Suggestions, and more. Check them out today at githubnext.com and watch that space for the latest from our team, as well as our discord at gh.io/next-discord.
Thanks again for your participation and interest in our technical previews. Feedback from our community of tinkerers and early adopters is incredibly valuable and directly influences the types of projects we invest in. If you have additional feedback to share, we’d love to have you join GitHub’s research panel.
Thank you!
