Kravanh: Traditional Khmer Goodness in the City
The eastern side of the well-known Russian Market lies a medium-sized Khmer cuisine restaurant with a wooden house on the first floor. With its name derived from one of the Cambodian mountain ranges, Kravanh serves authentic, traditional, home made, and fresh-from-the-kitchen Cambodian cuisine.
Being the second branch after having the first one for two years, Kravanh is perfecting their dishes on the way to serve more remarkable traditional Cambodian cuisine. As the time being, Kravanh offers most of the popular Cambodian dishes in store; Fish Amok, Noodle Soup, Naem Trey, Papaya Salad, Deep Fried Fish, you name it!
Kravanh collects their ingredients from the local fresh markets and their own vegetable garden, which is also a place for them to try and test new recipe. These ingredients allow Kravanh to make the food as rich in flavor as they should be.
To start with, their Fish Amok is unlike to elsewhere you could find. Fresh water fish steamed with coconut milk and herbs in banana leaves. Kravanh balances the taste between the fish meat and the other savory ingredients.
Their Nom Ban Chok (Noodle Soup) is really worth mentioning. Kravanh should be a place where you can find Nam Ya soup with the right amount of fish meat and the red paste. Along with many side vegetables for your choice, you will definitely feel the traditional vibe while you are at it.
Naem Trey is made from floss fish meat, grilled coconut, pork skin, and a bit of crispy onion served rolled in edible leaves. Imagine devouring a roll of it. The bland crunchy and chewy leaves against the savory soft mixture of the ingredients. Best thing on earth!
In contrast to our modern day sour and spicy Papaya Salad, Kravanh would serve you a traditional one. The one that comes with smoked fish and Prahok, and might be alike to Green Mango Salad we have nowadays. Worth a try, though!
Besides these incredible dishes, their Deep Fried Fish, Meang Los, and Steam Crab are also their signature plates. On top of that, they also offer Kravanh herbal tea to sooth your stomach as well as desert to finish off your meal.
Kravanh is not only a typical restaurant. They are trying to preserve the traditional food while also offer skill training to their employees. Check out them at Kravanh.
