From Proto-Polynesian *taqe (compare with Maori tae, Samoan tae and Tongan taʻe),[1] from Proto-Oceanic *taqe (compare with Fijian de), from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *taqi (compare with Malay tahi, Tagalog tae).[2][3]
