Semantic loan from translingual test

This template is used in etymology sections to indicate that one or more meanings of a term in one language was borrowed from a term of similar meaning in another language. For example, the Russian word мышь (myšʹ), which ordinarily refers to the small animal, came to refer to the computer device, after the model of English mouse.

Semantic borrowing is a special case of calque or loan-translation, in which the word in the borrowing language already existed and simply had a new meaning added to it. Use the template {{calque}} instead if the word in question did not exist until the loan-translation was created.

This template adds entries to categories such as Category:Russian semantic loans from English. Category pages for this template are created by {{auto cat}}.
