Management
[edit]Responsibility of the Divjakë-Karavasta National Park belongs to the National Agency of Protected Areas, which is directorate operating under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Environment.[1] It was enlisted as a national park on 19 October 2007 by the government of Albania in order to protect and conserve the region's extraordinary ecosystems and habitats along with their faunal and floral communities.[2][3] In 1995, the Karavasta Lagoon was designated as a wetland of international importance under the criteria of the Ramsar Convention.[4] Despite these protections, BirdLife International and Plantlife have further listed the park as an important Bird and Plant Area of global significance, respectively.[5][6]
