Bulevar
Bulevar or Bulevar oslobođenja (English: Liberation Boulevard; Cyrillic: Булевар or Булевар ослобођења) is a 3 km long boulevard and also one of many neighborhoods of Novi Sad (city in Serbian province of Vojvodina).
Name simply means "boulevard" in Serbian. Bulevar is not a traditional city neighborhood; it is rather an informal neighborhood that include parts of several traditional city neighborhoods that are situated around Bulevar Oslobođenja.
Location
Neighborhood is situated between city's train station and Freedom Bridge. Bulevar include parts of the traditional neighborhoods of: Banatić, Sajmište, Grbavica, Rotkvarija, Stari Grad, and Liman.
History
Bulevar was build between 1962-64. In that time new boulevard cut through the old housings establishing major communication lines. Until 1991, name of Bulevar was Bulevar 23. oktobara (23 October Boulevard), in owner of October 23, 1945 when Novi Sad was liberated from Germans.
Today, every bus line in the city (except for No.1) pass through Bulevar; making it most important and most busiest street in Novi Sad.
Features
Bulevar is also regarded as an informal business city centre. Although, most of the important political and cultural institutions are situated in the traditional city centre, known as Stari Grad, Bulevar is a main place in the city for business. In Bulevar allmost every bank in Serbia has its offices in this street; but also headquarters of Oil Industry of Serbia and Elektrovojvodina.
There are also many bars, shops, restaurants, and one market. Bulevar has a couple of recreation spots, the Stadium of Vojvodina, tennis courts and Liman Park.
