January 2024

Information icon Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions—specifically this edit to 2016 United States presidential election in Iowa—because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse or the Help desk. Thanks. Materialscientist (talk) 02:49, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I removed the background information because it was not relevant to the 2016 presidential election in Iowa. It might be relevant to the national election page, but including background about previous national elections is confusing for a page about a particular state. I think readers would wonder how this information relates to Iowa. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 03:38, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If the issue is that I didn't cite the dates of the caucuses, I can add a citation or remove that sentence, but I figured it was unnecessary because the dates are cited later in the section. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 04:51, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User: Luizi99633def and User: Okoye Sunday

Howdy.

Don’t forget about WP:CSD#G11 if you’re spotting user pages on the NewUsers log, that are just promotional and nothing else. WP:NOTHERE and WP:SPA might be worth your time, if you’re on the NewUsers log a lot. You’ve got the right idea, your Blanking of Luizi’s just… jumped out at me, is all.

Thanks. MM (Give me info.) (Victories) 22:02, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Makes sense. I thought Okoye Sunday's page was a good-faith attempt to create an article and Luizi99633def's page was too short to worry about, but I see that U5/G11 speedy deletion would have been better. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 22:15, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Online chat

Adding to what I said on Talk:Online chat: in the past few days I have made contributions to instant messaging and text messaging (and SMS) to make them more on point and easier to understand, although there remain some info that blend the lines. We need to properly distinguish these to readers, and I think the existence of online chat only makes everything worse. That's why I strongly support merging that to the synchronous article. But again as mentioned all these articles (+videotelephony and even Voice over IP) will all have to be linked to each other so that they are clearly laid out and understood. Sucrehypsy (talk) 18:35, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the differences are very unclear. For example, does text messaging count as synchronous CMC even though it might not use the internet? Helpful Raccoon (talk) 19:04, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm leaning on saying no (considering SS7), but I wouldn't be against the idea if that's decided upon.
Currently I am trying to clean up instant messaging which is a big mess itself (lots of unreferenced content for example). I just removed a big table that was very out of date and thus inaccurate. I'm sadly gonna be busy from tomorrow onwards, but yeah that article is in serious need of a cleanup/revamp and I'll probably put a hatnote and talk page note. Sucrehypsy (talk) 19:15, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also I just saw that there's a private messaging article even, and LAN messenger too. Do we really need all of these? It only makes things extra confusing. --Sucrehypsy (talk) 19:41, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
These are at least discrete concepts. I don't see what's wrong with these being separate articles. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 19:50, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that it leads to unnecessary fragmentation. LAN messenger is something that can very easily be merged and mentioned within the instant messaging article, as it isn't even a lenghty article on its own and wouldn't warrant being on its own in my view. Sucrehypsy (talk) 13:17, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm. Looking more closely at LAN messenger, there is very little content besides examples of LAN messengers, and LAN messaging isn't even the main feature in some of the example services. I don't see a way to expand it further, so merging might be a good idea. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 21:03, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User:THE KID 9809

Hello Helpful Raccoon,

I am aware of the changes you have done. Since I made my account a month ago, I do not fully understand the reason of the changes you have made.

Best of luck,

THE KID 9809 THE KID 9809 (talk) 21:58, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Because this edit reversed the intended meaning of the essay. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 22:02, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for moving the page back. Re-reading my comments, i was not very clear in my objection. Out of curiosity, if a page move does end up happening, is there a way to easily preserve the 12 pages of talk archive? Thanks. Bonewah (talk) 19:30, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure how to do that, sorry. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 20:31, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Strange forgery

DaynneDarrylleDelosSantos has just created Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Neighbors (2012 film) as a copy of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Primax Broadcasting Network, but replacing each signature with yours. Just thought you might want to know. jlwoodwa (talk) 00:43, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've been closing these AfD nominations as speedy keep but I wasn't sure whether they should be deleted instead. What do you think? Helpful Raccoon (talk) 00:47, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know, but I think the forged comments should at least be removed from the AfD pages. jlwoodwa (talk) 02:35, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Specifically Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tidal Wave (2009 film), Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Healing (film), Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/DYDL. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 00:50, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't realize this was part of a broader pattern of AfD forgery. Since you've asked them to stop, they're still doing it, they haven't responded on their talk page, and they seem to be targeting you with the forgery now, I think it might be time for ANI. jlwoodwa (talk) 02:36, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Chicago Tribune

Hi, still working on articles.chicagotribune.com, turning out well, it will save a lot of links. I came across archives.chicagotribune.com. Do you see patterns for live link conversions? -- GreenC 03:56, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I tried searching for a few of these articles and couldn't find any live versions either through Google or Chicago Tribune's search. I think they got rid of their online archives unfortunately. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 04:40, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. thank you. -- GreenC 13:20, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest regarding a user from a Philippine government office

@Helpful Raccoon: Good day! I noticed the revert you did for the edits done by user "Ovp.mprd" for the page Zuleika T. Lopez, categorizing them as good faith edits. However, I am not too certain the edits were done in good faith, considering the username indicates an affiliation with the Media and Public Relations Division (MPRD) of the Office of the Vice President of the Philippines (OVP), attempting to remove articles about the OVP Chief of Staff (Zuleika T. Lopez) and Special Disbursing Officer (Gina F. Acosta). LionFosset (talk) 06:44, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
