It is important to note that many oligotrophic lakes (esp. deep ones) are not rich in oxygen at depth. Significant oxygen will only be present at depth if seasonal mixing occurs to that depth. Lakes with mixing are termed holomictic (mono-, di-, poly-), whereas lakes without interlayer mixing are meromictic. Note: Further honing of this section would be helpful, in order to improve the flow. undo
