Religious Intolerance

edit

A new section should be added to this page to illustrate the religious intolerance that exists within the city based on the principles of Islamic Law (Shariah). Because of this it is forbidden in Marawi City, and Sulu province "to display the cross—the symbol of Christianity—at the top or frontage of buildings, including church spires. Christians are also proscribed from singing religious hymns. This makes it impossible for Catholics to hold sung High Masses and Protestants to melodiously exclaim their joy at the blessings of Amazing Grace."

It would be useful to reference the popular manual of Islamic Law called "Umdat al-Salik 011.5" which basically says the same thing, and this article from the Manila Times, from which I quoted above. https://www.manilatimes.net/national/2009/aug/24/yehey/opinion/20090824opi1.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.71.152.184 (talk) 20:00, 27 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

<Cityname> <City>

edit

There is a discussion regarding the removal of the word "city" from the article titles of Philippine cities. This may imminently affect the article name for Marawi. For city names which are not unique, disambiguation alternatives are also being presented. Formal request for page move may follow after a reasonable time of discussion. Tribal leader

edit

"The Tribal leader of Marawi way back before Spanish colonation is "Datu Buadi Sa Kayo". He is collecting the taxes during his Era."

It's not clear whether this refers to a title or a specific person. In either case, it's not sourced and poor grammar. If it can be sourced, propose change to "Prior to Spanish colonization, a tribal leader of Marawi known as "Datu Buadi Sa Kayo" collected taxes in the area." 8.19.241.10 (talk) 14:02, 24 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Status of Marawi

edit

While not a highly urbanized city or a independent city, Marawi seems to have a special status compared to other component cities beyond just having the title of "Islamic City". Its not rare for Marawi City to be mentioned as a separate entity from Lanao del Sur (ex. "Lanao del Sur and Marawi"). Any source supporting this would be helpful.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 07:04, 23 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
