Both aspects of worship and theological engagement are very much in keeping with the character of Hekima College as a Christian and Jesuit institution that aims, among other things, at excellence in the theological formation of its students. The Hekima College chapel exemplifies the attempt to unify worship with theology; devout prayer with diligent faith-filled seeking; ardent adoration of the Godhead with artistic articulation of the verities of faith.

This brief reflection exposes how in the Hekima College chapel, space, art, and architecture are employed to communicate meaning bearing on the transcendent; theological significance simultaneously emerging from and emphasizing the Christian mysteries that are celebrated within this particular space in the city of Nairobi.

Focusing primarily on the memory criterion as determining personal identity over time, the paper will investigate the position that memory survives biological death and is crucial in anchoring post-mortem personal identity. The paper highlights not only the plausibility of this position but also asserts that it is consistent with Roman Catholic eschatological doctrine. The paper ends by noting how the conclusions of this inquiry relate to the cult of the ancestors prevalent in most African societies and support the intuitions grounding the observance of this cult.

The rapid urbanisation of Africa has brought with it a vibrant popular culture. Elements of this culture include music, dance, and film. Unfortunately, professional African theologians seem to continue to carry out their work in the old “textbook” fashion, seemingly oblivious to this change. This paper argues that today African theologians need to pay attention to popular culture as a source and possible outlet for African theology if it is to remain relevant.
