The top 8 places where people are taking Bird scooters in D.C.

Shared electric scooters from Santa Monica-based mobility company Bird have operated in D.C. since spring 2018, when scooters joined the city’s program for dockless vehicles. As an official report published by the District that December showed, most dockless vehicle trips registered in the first 10 months of the program, including scooter trips, were under a mile long and occurred in Ward 2, which covers the city’s downtown core and the National Mall.

New information released by Bird supports the latter finding. The top destinations for Bird riders in D.C. include the Mall, George Washington University, and the National Gallery of Art, as well as Whole Foods and the Southwest Wharf. The top eight hotspots follow below.

The District’s dockless vehicle program recently expanded with mopeds: New York-based company Revel will provide 400 shared mopeds on city streets. Nearly two years after the District launched its dockless vehicle program in September 2017, D.C. now has permitted more than 5,000 of these vehicles—including electric bikes, electric scooters, and mopeds.
