[origin: WO9220888A1] A pole for supporting power cables, telephone lines, cable conveyors, antennas or for use as a portal post, lamp pole or the like, comprising a single open metal profile (1) or two open metal profiles placed symmetrically or essentially symmetrically in relation to an intermediate vertical plane. The profiles (1) have two legs (8), a polygonal cross-sectional shape and a longitudinally extending symmetry plane (11), wherein braces or ties (12) are arranged between surface parts (17) which are spaced substantially equidistant from the symmetry plane (11) and connected to the ends of the ties and wherein profiles (1) and ties (12) are configured and positioned so as to provide a pole which is relatively light in weight and highly stable in requisite directions for the intended purpose and to which access can be readily had for inspection and cable-drawing purposes.
