Amarkantak is a scenic hill top pilgrimage town where Vindhya, Maikal and Satpura mountain ranges meet in east Madhya Pradesh, India. It is the source of two important rivers – Narmada heading west, and Sone heading northeast to meet the Ganga river. For nearly two millennium, Amarkantak has found mention in Indian literature as a Hindu and Jain religious site. Many historic Shaiva, Vaishnava, Shakta and Svetambara-Jain temples are found in Amarkantak.

The notable entrance of Sri Yantra mandir features the colossal faces of goddess Lakshmi, Saraswati, Kali, and Bhuvaneshwari. With them are 64 Chausath Yoginis. The entrance also includes Ganesha and Kartikeya. Past the entrance, inside are two concentric rows of 108 Shakta themes (reflecting 108 Hindu Upanishads). The central temple is dedicated to an aspect of Tripura Sundari.

The temple is constructed as a 3D projection of the Sri Yantra or Sri Chakra. It celebrates everything feminine, as the creative fuel and energy of the universe. This is one of the hallmark temples of Sri Vidya tradition in Hinduism.
