Joobin Bekhrad
Joobin Bekhrad is a writer, editor, and strategic communication specialist. In addition to Reorient, an acclaimed arts review he founded in 2012 and edited until 2018, he has contributed to a host of other acclaimed publications, such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, The Financial Times, The Economist, The Telegraph, Forbes, CNN, the BBC, GQ, AnOther, Paper, Vanity Fair, The Times Literary Supplement, Christie’s, Frieze, and ArtAsiaPacific (whose Canadian Desk Editor he served as between 2018 and 2022), been interviewed by ones like Newsweek (which referred to him as a ‘leading figure in the art world’ in 2016), PRI, Monocle, The Art Newspaper, and the CBC, and seen his articles republished in a wide variety of languages.
Throughout his adventures in journalism, Joobin has interviewed Ronnie Wood, John Malkovich, Paul Smith, Christian Lacroix, Zandra Rhodes, Dries Van Noten, Thierry Mugler, Kenzo Takada, Isabel Marant, Agnès B., Johnny Marr, Salma Hayek, John Varvatos, Terry O’Neill, Anna Sui, Barbara Hulanicki, Katharine Hamnett, Chris Stein (Blondie), Glen Matlock, and Betsey Johnson, amongst many other luminaries.
In 2015, Joobin was granted an International Award for Art Criticism (IAAC) by London’s Royal College of Art. Other prestigious academic institutions, such as the Courtauld Institute, Columbia University, and the University of Southern California have also formally recognised him over the years.
His articles aside, Joobin is the author of a novella (Coming Down Again), a novel (Guguli), eight volumes of poetry (Magicked Out of Blue; Stars Behind the Sun; Soft Wonders; The Sailor; Turncoats of Paradise; Down the Twilit Hill; Elsewhere; and Lovers of Light), a translation of Persian poetry (The Quatrains of Omar Khayyam), and a collection of stories (With My Head in the Clouds and Stars in My Eyes).
Education-wise, Joobin holds a BBA from York University, an MSc in Management from City, University of London, and an MS in Strategic Communication from Columbia University.
