Atletico Madrid and Chelsea played to a scoreless draw in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final on Tuesday.

Atletico, despite carrying much of the play, could only muster a few half-chances while Chelsea recorded just a single shot on target.

Statistically, (stats courtesy WhoScored?), the Spanish outfit controlled 69% of possession and completed 83% of their passes to the Blues’ 63%

Juanfran: Getting forward often and pinning Cole into his own half.

Miranda: Yet to put a foot wrong, though he’s hardly been tested.

Godin: Committed a needless foul on Torres that gifted Chelsea a free kick in dangerous space.

F.Luis: He’s won all of his aerial battles so far.

M.Suarez: No one has touched the ball more often.

Gabi: Has completed 87% of his passes—slightly substandard.

Koke: Quite nearly scored directly from a corner.

Full-Time analysis for Atletico Madrid

Courtois: Was only called upon to make a pair of straightforward saves.

Juanfran: Marauded down the right and completed an eye-popping 98% of his passes.

Miranda: Distribution was sub-par, but he didn’t put a foot wrong in the centre of defense.

Godin: Made three tackles on the defensive side of the ball.

F.Luis: Won each and every one of his aerial battles.

M.Suarez: Completed 89% of his passes and executed three tackles.

Gabi: Touched the ball a game-high 103 times.

Koke: Didn’t make nearly the impact he will have hoped.

R.Garcia: Atletico’s primary target-man also committed himself defensively.

Diego: Took six shots before being substituted.

D.Costa: Had the chance to nick a late winner with a header at the far post.

Turan: Completed 100% of his passes after replacing Diego on the hour-mark.

Sosa: Just 14 touches in a 10-minute cameo.

Villa: His four-minute showing left little time to make an impact.

Azpilicueta: Distribution has been poor and he’s struggled to get forward.

Cahill: Has won all of his aerial duels.

Mikel: Made an important intervention to prevent Raul Garcia springing Diego Costa.

D.Luiz: Distribution has been appalling.

Ramires: His shot on a Chelsea counter was laughable.

Willian: Only 17 touches but a strong period defensively from the Brazilian.

Torres: Showing a willingness to track back.

Schwarzer: Came into the line of fire but has only had a single save to make.

Full-Time analysis for Chelsea

Cech: Has a separated shoulder.

Azpilicueta: Made an absolutely vital challenge on Koke early in the second half.

Cahill: Had to be especially sturdy following Terry’s injury.

Terry: Substituted midway through the second half with a foot injury.

Cole: Showed a bit more spark after the restart.

Mikel: Will miss the second leg after picking up a booking.

D.Luiz: Did well to close down space, but his passing was way, way off.

Lampard: Lucky to have not been ejected for a pair of hand-balls.

Ramires: Contributed four tackles but completed barely half his passes.

Willian: One of Chelsea’s better, more committed players on the night.

Torres: Played the full 90 minutes and got a nice ovation from his former home fans at the final whistle.

Schwarzer: Made four saves to keep Chelsea in the tie.

Schurrle: Only eight touches after replacing Terry in the 73rd minute.

Ba: Essentially a time-wasting substitution.
