Cracker of a Diwali
AARAMBAM (TAMIL)
USP: Ajith-Vishnu Vardhan combo, Nayantara and Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music
Every Ajith film is a celebration of sorts for his legion of fans. Aarambam marks the return of the superhit combo – Ajith and ace directorVishnu Vardhan , who had set the box office on fire with Billa during the 2007 Diwali . Then there is Nayanthara to scorch the screen and Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music to pep it up further. The hype for the big-budget film has been humongous and if reports from Kollywood are to be believed, the film will break all opening-day records in Tamil Nadu. Believe it or not, Chennai’s Mayajaal will screen 91 shows on October 31 (the day it releases) and 81 shows the next day. Not for nothing is he called the King of Opening. Shows across Tamil Nadu’s major towns are slated to open as early as 4 am. Besides Ajith and Nayantara, the stellar star cast includes Rana Daggubatti , Arya, Tapsee, Atul Kulkarni, Kishore and Mahesh Manjrekar. This will be the only release of Ajith this year. Bookings have already begun even in Bangalore.
MASALA (TELUGU)
USP: Venkatesh and Ram
The ongoing tussle over Telangana has taken the sheen off Diwali releases in Tollywood. With many film-makers postponing their flicks, only one film is slated for Diwali. Masala, which features Venkatesh and Ram, will be released a week after the festival though. A remake of the Hindi movie Bol Bachchan, Masala is directed by K Vijay Bhaskar. Tamil actress Anjali and Shazahn Padamsee are also part of the cast. The Telugu dubbed version of Tamil flicks Aarambam and All in All Azhagu Raja will be released across Andhra Pradesh.
RAJA HULI (KANNADA)
USP: Yash — his first full-fledged action film
Raja Huli, starring Yash, is the only big Kannada release for Diwali. Directed by Guru Deshpande, it comes after a series of hits for Yash and string of failures for producer K Manju. Meghana Raj is paired with Yash in her home-coming film while veteran Hamsalekha has scored music and penned the lyrics.
ALL IN ALL AZHAGU RAJA (TAMIL)
USP: Santhanam, Kajal and Karthi (Yes , in that order!)
Reeling under a string of flops, Karthi is desperately looking for a blockbuster —or at least a hit — to give his career a much-needed fillip. Written and directed by Rajesh M, who has to his credit three back-to-back hits, All In All Azhagu Raja has all the ingredients of a potboiler. Santhanam has a cruical role in the proceedings for the third consecutive time in a Rajesh film. For Karthi, the film’s outcome is very crucial as both his earlier outings Sakuni and Alex Pandian drew lukewarm response at the box office. Kajal Agarwal is teaming up again with Karthi after Naan Mahaan Alla. Forthe record , All in All Azhagu Raja was the (character) name of Goundamani in Vaidehi Kaathirundal , starring Vijaykanth.
PANDIANAdUD (TAMIL)
USP: D Imman’s music and Vishal
Vishal, who has been going through a rough patch for a while, has all his hopes pinned on Pandianadu, directed by Suseendran. Music director D Imman, the latest sensation in Kollywood, has come up with some peppy numbers.Lakshmi Menon , one of the most-sought-after heroines, is pairing up with Vishal for the first time. Eminent director Bharathiraja, too, appears in a crucial role. Again, the film’s performance at the box office is crucial for both the actor and the director to revive their sagging careers. Trade sources say the flick could be the ‘dark horse’ this Diwali.
