An effort in Barberton, Ohio, to recall Mayor William Judge was initiated in July 2020.[1] Petitioners failed to gather enough signatures to put the recall election on the ballot.[2]
Recall supporters
The recall effort was organized by Barberton resident Kimberly Trenary, who accused Judge of focusing too much on attracting large businesses to the city rather than small businesses. At the time of the recall, the city was in the process of finding businesses to fill vacant buildings left after the city's largest employer, Babcock & Wilcox, relocated out of the city.[1][3]
Recall opponents
The Akron Beacon Journal reported that Judge responded to the recall effort by saying that the city is focused on attracting businesses of all sizes. He added, "we are trying like mad to match vacant buildings with businesses."[1]

In Ohio, any elected municipal official is subject to recall so long as the official has served at least one year in office. Under state law, recall petitioners are required to gather signatures equal to at least 15% of the total votes cast in the last regular municipal election within 90 days.
Recall organizers were required to submit about 800 valid signatures from residents who voted in the 2019 general election in Barberton.[1]
