Recall reports

An effort in Ogunquit, Maine, to recall Select Board Chairman Charles Waite, Selectwoman Madeline Mooney, and Selectman Bob Winn was initiated in October 2018. The recall election took place on May 9, 2019.[1] All three officials retained their positions.[2]

After petitioners submitted enough signatures to put the recall on the ballot, a temporary injunction was issued on February 4, 2019, preventing the recall election from being scheduled. The stay was lifted on March 7, 2019.[3]

Recall supporters

Recall organizers began the recall process after a public appeal hearing on October 9, 2018, in which the three board members voted to uphold the termination of former fire chief Mark O'Brien by Town Manager Pat Finnigan.[3]

Temporary injunction

On January 25, 2019, residents Mary Buck, Barbara Ferraro, Patricia Hussey and Peter Kahn filed a lawsuit looking to prevent the recall from moving forward. The lawsuit accused recall organizers and town officials of improperly handling the recall process, and that the petitions and signatures were invalid as a result. York County Superior Court Judge John O’Neil issued a temporary injunction on February 4, 2019, preventing the recall election from being scheduled. O’Neil lifted the stay on March 7, 2019.[3]
