Sheldon Jay Plager is a federal judge on senior status with the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He joined the court in 1989 after being nominated by President George H.W. Bush. Plager assumed senior status on November 30, 2000.[1]
Education
Plager graduated from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill with his bachelor's degree in 1952, from the University of Florida College of Law with his J.D. in 1958, and from Columbia Law School with his L.L.M. degree in 1961.[1]
Military service
Plager served in the U.S. Navy on active duty and, later, in the reserves from 1948 to 1970.[1]

Plager was nominated by President George H.W. Bush on September 12, 1989, to a seat vacated by Judge Shiro Kashiwa as Kashiwa assumed senior status. The American Bar Association rated Plager Substantial Majority Qualified, Minority Well Qualified for the nomination.[2] Hearings on Plager's nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on October 20, 1989, and his nomination was reported by then-U.S. Senator Joseph Biden on November 2, 1989. Plager was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on November 8, 1989, by unanimous consent, and Plager received his commission on November 11, 1989.[1][3]
