Pro tempore is a Latin term meaning "for the time being." Something that is pro tempore is temporary or provisional. In the legal field, it is often used to refer to judges who are filling a temporary vacancy for another judge. The term can also be applied to attorneys who have been appointed to serve as a substitute judge for an absent judge who regularly sits on the bench.[1][2]
