Education
- Excerpt: "I believe that a non-centralized education plan, run at a local level education system, will offer the best outcome for our children's future. When we allow federal and state programs to govern local decisions, we undermine the best efforts of our parents, teachers and local schools. I believe that the governments of our local community have the ability to address future and immediate needs if we are left to govern ourselves."
- Excerpt: "I will advocate for keeping property taxes generated in District 53 in District 53. By doing so, these funds will benefit our students and our schools. Property taxes were established with control at a local level. When we allow centralization of property tax, the people lose their voice and control over how and when they can be taxed. I will advocate for greater local control and discretion on how funds will be administered."[9]
Fiscal responsibility
- Excerpt: "Citizens of Utah have been taxed too often and much too liberally. Too many programs crowd the budget and many people feel entitled to their piece of the pie. Government was never meant to provide so much to so many. I sincerely believe we need to return to our historic belief in personal responsibility. That said, there are some things only government can do for a society. In those areas we need to be efficient, compassionate, and effective."[10]
Public lands
- Excerpt: "True conservation is not taking the taking the people off the land, but empowering those close to the land with the resources necessary to preserve the land for a future generation. This is why I support the Public Land Transfer efforts to bring the decision making process back to a local level. We are all stewards of public lands, and we need to take the special interest groups out of the decision making process. Locally led policies are crucial to the future of public lands and the communities that depend on them to survive."[11]

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
