An effort to recall Brent Cheyne, Grant Knoll, and Ken Smith from their positions on the Klamath Irrigation District (KID) board in Klamath County, Oregon, was launched in 2016. Petitions were filed against the three officials on July 25, 2016, by Ed Bair, Jason Chapman, and Ross Fleming, all of whom previously served on the board.[1] Cheyne and Smith faced recall elections on October 12, 2016. Cheyne was recalled and Smith was retained.[2] On September 27, 2016, the recall petition for Knoll was certified. His recall election occurred on November 7, 2016.[3] Knoll was retained.[4]

Recall supporters
The petitioners cited the following reasons for seeking the recalls:
- High fees paid to out-of-town attorneys,
- The departure of several district employees, and
- The board's failure to conduct business in a public forum in accordance with public meetings laws.
Cheyne is the chairman of the board, Knoll is the vice-chairman, and Smith is a board member.[1]

Recall proponents had 100 days to collect enough valid signatures to get the recalls on the ballot.[1] The number of valid signatures required to force a recall election is 15 percent of the total number of votes cast in the public officer’s electoral district for all candidates for governor at the last election at which a candidate for governor was elected to a full term. The petitions were turned in on August 23, 2016.[5] The KID verified the signatures in early September. The petitions for Cheyne and Smith were determined to have met the signature requirement. An election was scheduled for October 12, 2016, for the recalls of Cheyne and Smith.[6] Knoll's recall petition was certified later in month. His recall occurred on November 7, 2016.[3]
