Kathleen I. Macdonald was a judge of the 3rd Circuit Court (Civil Division) in Wayne County, Michigan. She served from 1986 to 2017. She was the Presiding Judge of the Family Division from 2003 to 2005.[1][2][3]

Education

Macdonald received her B.A. degree from Wayne State University in 1980 and her J.D. degree from Detroit Law School in 1985.[1][4]

Career

Macdonald joined the circuit court in 1986. She served there as the Presiding Judge of the Family Division from 2003 to 2005. She also worked in an administrative role from 2008 to 2009 as Chief Judge Pro Tem to Chief Judge William J. Giovan. She is the founder of Kids First, which is a program to help parents realize how divorce affects children.[4]

2010 election

Macdonald was re-elected to the 3rd Circuit Court in the general election on November 2, 2010, along with 18 other judges.[2]

Awards and associations

Macdonald served on both the Executive and the Mediation Court Rule Committees of the 3rd Circuit Court from 2003 to 2005. She was on the State Bar Family Law Section Executive Committee from 1990 to 1994 and is the founder of "Kids First," a parenting program offered through the Court.

Macdonald was honored by the Wayne Count Clerk in 2003 for her efforts to fight domestic violence. She received an Award in Appreciation from the State Bar of Michigan in 1994 and was recognized by the State Bar Family Law Section for her service as Alimony Guidelines Chair (1993, 1994) and as Amicus Curiae Chair (1991, 1992). She also received an Award in Appreciation from the Family Law Section in 1990.[1]
