Morikawa won re-election in the 2012 election for Hawaii House of Representatives District 16. Morikawa ran unopposed in the August 11 Democratic primary and defeated Troy Trujillo (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[8][9]

Daynette Morikawa won election to House District 16 in 2010. Daynette defeated incumbent Roland Sagum III in the primary. The primary election took place on September 18, 2010. The general election took place on November 2, 2010. Phil Sterker ran on the Republican ticket for this seat.[10]
