A vote about whether to recall Carrie Lemke from her position on the city council of Superior, Nebraska took place on November 6, 2012. Lemke was retained in office. A recall effort was also launched against four city council members, including the mayor, but only Lemke faced a recall election.

Reasons for recall

The catalyst for recall was Superior's nuisance abatement program, which is intended to get rid of nuisance properties and houses that are poorly maintained and deemed unsafe. However, some city residents see the program as a violation of privacy. Resident Jennifer Simpkins said, "I've heard other people say they've gotten a letter for having their garage door open." Lemke defended the city's actions, saying, "We're city leaders trying to cleanup our city and make our city more appealing to people who want to move here."

Path to the ballot

Sufficient signatures were submitted in August 2012, and a recall election was scheduled for November 6, 2012.
