Judicial nominations and appointments

Ninth Circuit

Stephens was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on June 8, 1937 to a seat created by 50 Stat. 64. He was confirmed by the Senate on June 15th and received commission on June 18th. From 1957 to 1959, he was the chief judge. On January 25, 1961, he assumed senior status and continued to serve in this capacity until his death on January 15, 1965.[1]

Southern District of California

Stephens was nominated to the Southern District of California by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on August 21, 1935 to a seat created by 49 Stat. 508. He was confirmed by the Senate on August 23rd, and received commission August 14th. He served on this court until June 21, 1937.[1]
