An effort to recall A.J. O'Connell from his elected position on the city council of Creswell, Oregon was launched in April 2012.[1] The recall effort was abandoned in July 2012.[2]
Reasons for recall
Creswell firefighter and former city council member Robert L. Millam submitted the recall petition. Millam was acting on behalf of the Committee to Recall A.J. O'Connell. The recall petition said, "since being sworn into office in 2011, Creswell city councilor O'Connell has demonstrated a pattern of inappropriate behavior towards the mayor, city staff and fellow councilors. His actions have resulted in his being censured and publicly reprimanded twice."[1]
Creswell Mayor Bob Hooker said that he was not involved in the recall effort, but he said that he supported it.[3]
O'Connell's response
In response to the recall effort against him, O'Connell said, “this just shows that Mayor (Bob) Hooker and his little establishment group of policymakers are very worried about the public support I have...Remember that while they are working to gather signatures to get me recalled, I am trying to find ways to help our economy, eliminate poverty and make our streets safer. What are the real issues here?”[4]
Path to the ballot
Recall organizers had 90 days to gather 251 signatures.[4] The signature submission deadline was July 2.[5] The recall effort came to an end when the submission deadline passed, and recall organizers did not submit any signatures.[2]
