TAINAN, Taiwan -- Japan's top chipmaking equipment maker, Tokyo Electron, has opened a major operations center in the southern Taiwanese city of Tainan as it deepens ties with key customer Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.

The move is a boost for efforts to further strengthen Taiwan's chipmaking ecosystem and supply chain resilience, while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
