A tall, decorative square-plan clocktower. There is a squared rubble craigniter with dressed quoins and bands of granite to the top stage. There is a door at the base with slit windows above. The top stage has clock faces to each elevation and above this is an open stage with granite columns supporting a corbelled decorative parapet. After a public water supply arrived in Gatehouse, the architect F. T. Pilkington was asked to draw up plans in December 1882 for the addition of a drinking fountain and water troughs for dogs and horses. These additions were completed in the summer of 1883.
