A whip is a tool traditionally designed to strike animals or people to aid guidance or exert control over them through pain compliance or fear of pain, though they can be used without pain as additional pressure aid or visual directional cue in equestrianism. Whips can be either firm and more precise or flexible and more powerful; some, such as hunting whips, combine a firm handle and a flexible lash.
