I think this might have been the series with the highest drama I have seen yet. And not the good emotional drama where you have to cry a river.
This one is just so very unrealistic and overly dramatic and somehow wants to be emotional but is simply over the top.
I still enjoyed watching it even though I was ranting "no, just no" so very often. I love watching oldschool anime and also enjoy the genres of music, romance and drama. It could have been a perfect mix.. but oh well.
For fans of oldschool stuff and kinda bad drama.

Two baby girls were born in the same hospital: one of them is the daughter of an aristocratic family while the other belongs to a deprived household which lives in the slums of the city. However, the nurse-in-charge, Michiko, secretly switches the two babies due to a personal grudge, resulting in a change of fates of the girls from then on. Many years later, the lives of the two girls continue to be intertwined with each other, with the rich Miki ill-treating the poor Nozomi, yet both of them hold similar dreams to become a singer.

Despite the unrealistic premises and some flaw in the animation, Sasurai no Taiyou is a landmark of early dramatic shoujo. Highly enjoyable character and good old 70's tragic plot made it a very recommended watch if you could speak japanese as the serie remain unsubbed to this day. A real shame considering it's the pionner of all musical anime to come after that....
