While this is billed as a prequel to Konosuba season 1, it creates a huge continuity problem in that Megumin visited Arkenretia before meeting the others and that makes some of what happened in Konosuba season 2 seem a little off. I really hate people who don't read the existing material before pulling stuff out of their asses.
That said, I gave it a 6, but I have to take this as an alternate version, rather than a true and proper prequel.

Episode 8, 4:33 "Yeah this is too stupid for me, can I leave ?" I never thought a line from the anime itself would sum up my feelings of it so well.
It's been months since I had to skip so many times through a show just to get through it, it's just too cringey, slow, stupid and overrated, but I somehow didn't drop it, so I guess there was some worth to it, I would have enjoyed it better as an OVA/movie.
Even the main story was only so-so, so this is recommended to Konosuba super fans only.

For Fans! This series does not have much in the way of comedy, it was cute seeing how this character developed, but that made for a dry cliched comedy series. They tried to tie into a bunch of other things that had occurred in the original series, but that only made the effect a little more lopsided, aspects that weren't particularly funny in the original were less funny in this one.
I think the combination of all the episodes in this series could have made for 1-2 of interesting episodes of proper backstory.

I understand what the animation studio was attempting… release a prequel to a wildly popular series, Konosuba. However, what made Konosuba work was the randomness and all the characters meshing well together, but when that gets restricted to only one character, this prequel was already at a disadvantage. There are funny moments spread out, but it doesn't hit the same. The first half was slow, but luckily the second half is a bit better. All in all, this had some good moments, but overall this was an ok watch.

Compared to the original Konosuba which had lots of great fan service, this was lacking quite a bit. Story too was not as good, but I liked both the main character, and it was 'gentle fun'.
If you have watched the original, then this is a must see, else its a definite pass.

the title itself is pretty much self explanatory, the background story of Megumin, nothing to serious just an ok series, you do not need to watch this for kono suba but only if you are interested for the character. for fans or if you have nothing else to watch and this is your thing.

For fans of the "joke magic" arch-wizard and Rieri. It's an "OK" anime. Animation is definitely below the quality of the main series. As name suggests, it focuses on Megumin before she joins Kazuma and others. While the high jinks are there, this series shows rather clearly that the strength of the main series comes from how the characters play off of each-other. While Yunyun provides a bit of that, as she's true to her character, she's the straight man in this too, so it ends up not as funny.

After watching this series, I feel that it mostly caters to fans of Konosuba because it is mostly a backstory series focused on Megumin. Overall the quality is less than the main series and I would strongly recommend watching the main series first before watching this.
