Our Bison Taxidermy

All-Taxidermy is your local and online resource for gorgeous American bison taxidermy mounts. Our quality grade score indicates the condition and attention to detail of each mount. In addition, our best pieces – denoted by the Excellent, Superior, and Trophy badges (as well as the Olympic Big Game Taxidermy logo), indicate perfect or near-perfect taxidermy displays. Whether you’re looking for shoulder mounts, a skull, or a life size mount, we have everything you’re looking for. Browse our beautiful American Bison mounts collection.

Bison Shoulder Mounts

If you are looking to conserve space on your wall, we recommend taking a look at our selection of bison shoulder mounts. Not only do they conserve space, they’re also more affordable when compared to life size mounts. However, shoulder mounts are still quite impressive, and allow the viewer to appreciate the sheer size of the animal’s head, horns, and beauty of the thick brown hide.

Each of our shoulder mounts will list specifics like species, pose, action, depth, width, height, weight, overall measurements, and SCI score. Please shop All-Taxidermy’s bison shoulder mount collection today!

Life Size Mounts

A life size bison taxidermy mount is much larger and more costly. However, they are well worth the investment, especially if you’ve always dreamed of showing off a Great Plains taxidermy collection in your cabin. The American bison will look stunning standing or charging/galloping among grass in a custom habitat, or even on a pedestal.

If you’re interested in life size bison mounts, please take a look at our pricing page to get an approximate cost of your project. For a taxidermy piece of this size, you can expect your project to cost around $20,000+.

Bison Hides

Another way to show off the bison’s majestic brown fur is by having your bison made into a hide. Display your authentic bison hide on your cabin wall, draped over your couch, or as a rug stretched in front of your sofa. Hides/robes are indeed one of the coolest ways to display your bison’s hide. Contact us for details on buffalo/bison hide pricing.

Bison Skulls

Lastly, we also work on bison skulls. These can be displayed on your wall as a European mount among other North American mammal skulls, or on your office desk or bookshelf if you prefer. Bison skulls are a great alternative to our other taxidermy types – especially if you want to show off the animal’s massive skull and distinctive horns. Our most pristine bison skulls are represented by the Deluxe Beetle Clean Skulls category.

About the American Bison

One of North America’s most recognizable and majestic mammals is the American bison (Bison bison). Also called the American buffalo, or simply the buffalo, this huge mammal has two subspecies in North America: the Plains bison, and the Wood bison. There is also the European bison, (Bison bonasus) which went extinct in the 1920s, but was reintroduced to the wild and now dwells in herds in modern day Belarus and Poland. Check out our European bison taxidermy here.

Of extant land mammals in North America, the bison is the heaviest and the longest, and after the moose, the bison is the tallest. Males are called bulls, and females are called cows. The bull is significantly larger and heavier than the cow. Bison young are called calves.

American Bison/Buffalo Taxidermy FAQs

Easily one of the most sought after trophies to have in any North American taxidermy collection, here are some of the most common questions people ask about the American bison:

How much is a taxidermy bison?

The cost of your American bison taxidermy will depend on whether you’re opting for a skull, hide, shoulder mount, pedestal mount, or a life size trophy. Other factors include the size/weight of the animal and whether you’re including a custom habitat. Shoulder mounts can cost $3000+ and life size mounts can be $20,000+ or more. For more details on your bison’s cost, please view our pricing list page for the most up-to-date prices.

Are buffalo and bison the same?

There are two species of buffalo in the world, the African Cape buffalo and the Asian Water buffalo. However, these are technically different from the bison species: the American and European bison. So while the two species of buffalo and two species of bison are both part of the bovidae family, they are not closely related – the latter, in fact, is more closely related to domestic cattle.

How much do bison skulls cost?

For a bison skull from a full grown male specimen, you can expect to pay several hundred dollars to accommodate for the cleaning and whitening process to retain the integrity of the skull and horns. Our current price for a male bison skull is estimated at around $225. For the most up-to-date pricing, please give our team a call, or visit our price list page.

What is the difference between a cow and bull bison skull?

The head and skull shape of a female (or cow) bison will appear more narrow and linear. By contrast, a male (or bull) bison will have a wider and more bulky appearance, with the horns further apart. When in doubt, ask one of our taxidermy experts!
