Tehsil Meerut, District Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, Bharat
Meerut is a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
It is an ancient city with settlements dating back to the Indus Valley civilization having been found in and around the area.

The city lies 70 km (43 mi) Northeast of the National capital New Delhi, and 453 km (281 mi) NorthWest of the state capital, Lucknow. The city may have derived its name from Maya Rashtra, the capital of the kingdom of Mayasura, Mandodari's father and Ravana's father-in-law. This name may have mutated to Mairashtra, Mai-dant-ka-khera, Mairaath and eventually Meerut.
According to another version, Maya(sura), being a distinguished architect, received from King Yudhisthira the land on which the city of Meerut now stands and he called this place Mayarashtra, a name which in the course of time became shortened to Meerut. Tradition also has it that the city formed a part of the dominions of Mahipala, the king of Indraprastha, and the word Meerut is associated with his name

I love Meerut, and log to be back there. It's my birth place, and some notable places worth visiting include Augarnath Mandir, also known as Kali Paltan, Company Garden(Gandhi Baagh, Begum Bridge, Abulane,etc.. Meerut has also been known as an important business center, it's famous for scissors which are exported all over the world, also there's a lot of sports good's manufaturing companies. Meerut has a large number of coaching centers, especially for engeneering and medical entrance exams. Some of the notable tutors from Meerut include Prof. M.L. Khanna, Prof. Jaggi, Mr. Rasool, etc. Meerut has a large number of schools and colleges, the Meerut College here has produced many national leaders. While listing some colleges here I would include LLRM, MIET, RGEC, etc.. Meerut also has a lot of talented artists, working in different organisations, holding exhibitions, many of them have been recognised at National and International levels, to name a few of them: Dr. Raka Agrawal, Dr. Savita Naag, Dr. Kiran Pradeep, etc. Meerut is also known for quality medical services... hospitals like Tulsi Nursing home, Jaswantrai Speciality Hospital are making there mark in terms of quality services provided by them. Hope to add more info about my city, the city I love and am proud of. thanks, Abhishek

meerut is a historical place. Meerut people faced several attacks from west part of the country and always saved other parts of India from attacks. Meerut is having its own identity in history eg. RAVANA In laws belongs to Meerut, Hastinapur is in District Meerut, lakh mahal where duryodhan tried to kill pandavas in meerut, In 1857 freedom fight started from meerut and there is memory stone till is lying in Laali paltan mandir, good academic facility and huge developed farming area, farmers are mostly dependent with their own infrastructure, good marketing place like AbuLane, Safar Bazar and a very good chat bazar. I Love meerut because this city and area gives me lot.

if we talk about meerut we must talk about its water, food and freash air....the originality in all natural things ( no milawat -adulteration )......you can't find such taste at anywhere.Today this city has 4 universities.Major education hub having more than 50 engineering and professional colleges. This city or the areas nearby u can say are the sugar bowl of India. This city is also employing around seventy thousand people through gold business. This is known for its publication houses,Sweets.....even known for Nauchandi Mela, which creats a sense of brotherhood and integrity among the people.

I am writing not only because I am born and brought up in this sensitive city, with mixed population of human with different caste , faith and community, But also because I love it. My friends have very well described the feature of the city Called “MEERUT” . Yes no doubt, this city is famous for Sports Goods, Scissors , Revri, Gazzak, Excellent Medical Facilities and of course known for history of communal riots, but I would like to add few things such as HALIM BIRYANI . HALIM is a yellow colored thick delicious dish prepared with Meat , Wheat, & Pulses and eaten with BIRYANI ( in Meerut) sold on every corner of Meerut roads on hand pulled Rickshaws. The Famous Outlets to eat is at Hapur Road near GULMARG Cinema & Ghantaghar. MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS: The city is famous for export of Musical Instruments such as Tabla Sets , Saxophones Damroo, French Horns , Harmoniums, Euphoniums, Trumpets, Pocket Trumpet, Tamborine, Value Trumbone, Baritone, Bugles, Cornet, Pocket Cornet & Horns. It is said that the National Anthem of every country in the world is sang on the tunes of Trumpets made in Meerut. The musical instruments are exported to the US, Canada, Germany, UK, Australia, New Zealand. But if you are planning to go out for having good time with your friends & Family you will have go through the busy & congested roads listening to the loud sound of horns from everywhere. There is only one rule for traffic i.e. NO RULE. The city is as crazy for cricket as the whole nation. The cricket grounds like Victoria parks ( infamous for fire incidence), Gymkhana, Gandhi Bagh ( famous for Majnu Operation), Kailash Prakash Stadium etc remains busy all days to give another “Praveen Kumar” to Indian Cricket. I could not be to the city for the last eight years due to my studies & Job but I remain in touch with my friends and Family to be updated about the incidence which the city witnesses. The education standards have gone higher, people are more educated and intellectual but there is still scope for improvement in area like traffic systems, Electricity supply, financial support to small scale business etc. With the plan of International Airport coming up in the City the fortune of Thousands of People is definitely going to be changed.

it is true that there are a lot things to cheer about our city . it has been the place where the first agitation of indian soldiers towards the britishers was observed . but the central government failed to give the city its deserving status ,so that it may be a place for the tourists to visit .
