The Two RV Gypsies: Full-Time RVers
Michigan became the 26th state in the USA on January 26, 1837. |
|
State Capital - Lansing
The Name Michigan is from an Algonquian Chippewa Indian word "meicigama" that means "big sea water" "large water" or "large lake" (referring to the Great Lakes). State Nickname - Wolverine State |
|
State Nickname - Wolverine State
Michigan is the eighth most populous state in the USA.
A person in Michigan is never more than six miles from a natural water source or more than 87.2 miles from a Great Lakes shoreline
Michigan is the only state to consist entirely of two peninsulas. The Lower Peninsula, to which the name Michigan was originally applied, is often dubbed "the mitten" by residents, owing to its shape. When asked where in Michigan one comes from, a resident of the Lower Peninsula may often point to the corresponding part of his or her hand. The Upper Peninsula (often referred to as "The U.P.") is separated from the Lower Peninsula by the Straits of Mackinac, a five-mile wide channel that joins Lake Huron to Lake Michigan. The Upper Peninsula is economically important for tourism and natural resources.

July 24, 2010 - When the two RV Gypsies drove across the state line from Indiana to Michigan, they stopped at the Michigan Welcome Center and saw many wonderful historical and informational signs about the State of Michigan, that they would like to share because part of the reason the two RV Gypsies sold their house and travel full-time in their RV is to learn more about different parts of the USA and Canada.

When the two RV Gypsies arrived at "American Campgrounds" in Hartford, Michigan, they discovered that the creek that runs through the campground had backed up onto one of the dirt roads, and into the grassy sites near the creek. Although friends of the two RV Gypsies had just washed the toad the day before, mud obviously got on both the RV and the toad of the two RV Gypsies. The first site the two RV Gypsies parked in did not work out because when they put the jacks down, the blocks and jacks just sank into the wet ground. But they did find a dry site for their RV.
The two RV Gypsies were unable to get any TV channels in at this campground, not even with the satellite dish. No WI-FI either. AT&T was slow, but did come in. Clotheslines ARE allowed, but not attached to a tree. Most campgrounds don't allow clotheslines at all. |
