Kynoch Works at Witton was a huge North Birmingham factory where, from 1862 and in the ensuing 141 years, ammunition, non-ferrous metals and other products were manufactured. The site was vacated in 2003. But the Company itself - Kynoch & Co.; G. Kynoch & Co. Ltd.; Nobel Industries Ltd.; I.C.I. Metals Ltd; I.C.I. Ltd., Metals Division; Imperial Metals Industries (Kynoch) Ltd; and IMI plc. - extended beyond the Witton site and operated factories in various parts of the British Isles and beyond. It was an enterprise of great significance, in peace and especially in times of war.

And it continues to operate and thrive to this day with manufacturing facilities and markets throughout the world.  The huge manufacturing complex at Witton has long since gone. But the Company remains one of Birmingham's largest and best-known firms and despite many transformations throughout its long life it retains its roots firmly in the City.
