On September 15, 2020, Chinese Consul General in Penang Mr. Lu Shiwei visited SJK(C) Chung Shan, Penang and exchanged views on the development of the school and its education of Chinese culture with the Chairman of the School Board of Director Tan Lai Theng, Principal Lim Yuet Gnoh, etc.
Consul General Lu was briefed on the basic situation of the school, the international sister school program, the plan of carrying out exchanges with Chinese primary schools, etc. After visiting the school campus and teaching facilities and equipment, Mr. Lu spoke highly of the achievements that SJK(C) Chung Shan has made during its development and its educational philosophy. He especially highly appreciated the students for their amazing actions of great love, which is that during Kwong Wah Yit Poh’s charity campaign “share our love, jointly battle against the COVID-19”, the students of SJK(C) Chung Shan donated their gift money (angpao money) to support Wuhan’s fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
Consul General Lu said that Malaysia preserves the most complete Chinese education apart from China (including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan), and the Chinese society in Malaysia has made strenuous efforts and selfless devotion for this. My visit to SJK(C) Chung Shan this time is in hopes of understanding the development of the school and its exchanges with primary schools in China, so as to provide necessary assistance to promote the development of Chinese education in Penang and other places in consular district and enhance friendship between China and Malaysia.
Principal Lim Yuet Gnoh thanked Consul General Lu for his visit, and said that this is the first time that a Chinese envoy to Malaysia paid a visit to SJK(C) Chung Shan. She hopes that with the concern and support of the Consulate General of China in Penang, the school will be able to establish interactions with Chinese primary schools and carry out more exchange programs with these schools.
