Inside a Navy Hawk fighter jet

As the Royal Navy prepares to celebrate 100 years since the establishment of the Fleet Air Arm, the BBC has taken a look at a Hawk fighter jet.

On 7 May 1909 the Admiralty set aside £35,000 for the development of an airship, beginning a process that led to the formation of a Fleet Air Arm.

Today, the Navy's flying arm is central to military operations in Afghanistan and its planes and helicopters also help in the battle against pirates off the coast of Africa and drug smuggling in the Caribbean sea.

Lt Richard Sambrooks, from RNAS Yeovilton, demonstrates the Hawk's capabilities, and gives us a look inside the cockpit.
